Last two days of trekking

Then we headed out with Mr. Louie, a guy from the village, as Nop had to go back to town to get the next group of people we would be spending the night with in that village.
The second day of trekking was much easier than the first, but still very tiring. We trekked for about two hours (stopping once so Louis could make us chopsticks from bamboo he cut down for lunch) until we came to a farmers place. There we ate "jungle soup" as Louie called it, which was just ichiban and cabbage boiled in a pot over a fire. Then Louis found a turtle and some eels in the farmers rice field. We just looked at the turtle but the eels got boiled over the fire. Louis gave us some to try and it actually wasn't bad, tasted like fish, until Louis showed us the head/mouth, asked if we wanted some and then bit into it
Next we walked another two hours back to the village, stopping at another small hut and a village to see the kids in school.
When we finally got back to our village we were so tired, hot and sweaty that we did something we never would have guessed we would do in our lives....we showered in the outhouse. It still sounds gross but the water looked clean and it was cool and we were totally refreshed. Not many people can say they showered in an outhouse in the middle of the jungle! lol.
That night we had another great meal, this time we went into Nop's hut and watched him and Mr. Louie cook our food. Then we watched the kids sing again and then we pretty much just went to bed, as we were tired from all the trekking and the late night before.
In the morning we had some scrambled eggs and then were off on our way back to be picked up. Most of that day was downhill, which for me (Jackie) was a blessing, but for James he said he preferred uphill. I agree that much downhill is hard on the legs and don't get me wrong, it hurt and I could feel my shin splints but it was absolutely nothing compared to the overheating, confusion, and lack of balance I got from the hot day of uphill!
About halfway down we stopped at another waterfall, which wasn't nearly as much fun as the first day but I was content just to get to go in and cool my body down!
When we got back to the road we had lunch and then were taken to the bamboo rafting. It was pretty slow but peaceful and it was also fun trying to stand up and keep our balance when we hit rocks unexpectedly
Then it was back to Chiang Mai where we got into our room, did ALL our laundry in the tiny sink and hung it to dry (see pic) and then we were OUT. We didn't even get up for supper, we were so tired we couldn't fight to keep our eyes open.
Update: We completely forgot to mention this but our guide Nop wanted to teach us a card game the second night and so we gave him the cards and as soon as he started dealing we recognized what it was, Tens and Twos!! What a coincidence! Our guide who grew up in a hill tribe in Thailand and now lives in Chiang Mai tried to teach us our favourite card game from back home! haha. (We soon learn that pretty much everyone we play cards with knows this game, sometimes with different wild cards and slightly different rules but essentially the same.)
