sometimes you wake up at night because you went to bed too
early or you slept too much. It's interesting to hear all the sounds of the
night when you are awake and when all the night creatures come out to play.
there are hermit crabs crawling around on my coral floor, some are out side the
hut trying to crawl in so you hear this noise that sounds like something is
trying to eat your hut. Geckos climb around and making their noise (which
sounds like they are creeping) . Some fruit bats also sing out to signal other
fruit bats on where the food is. Some dogs will start barking and others will
join in. The crickets nicely fill the background. Every night one rouge or
annoyed rooster would always start the first 'kookaroo' at 1am, and others are
compelled to join in. You can tell that the roosters are still half asleep by
their weak 'kookaroos', but they are just compelled to sing out for some
unknown reason. They go just one round
and every rooster goes back to sleep. Sometime the rouge ones do another round of
'kookaroos' at 2am, often at 3am, and definitely at 4am. At 5am-6am the birds
start to chirp. Sometimes the "town bell" also rings at 5am to signal for early
activities that's about to start. I am calling this sequence of sounds from 1am
to 7am everyday as 'early morning cacophony'.
Of course if you are deep asleep you will not hear any of
the cacophony...
