Xel-Ha is a natural aquarium / water park about 120km south of cancun.
It is bascially a river inlet into the ocean. I highly recommend this
park for a full day's worth of activities. I also suggest the
all-inclusive package for park entrance. It's usd$59 but includes all
meals (3-4 decent restaurants/buffets), drinks (not your typical
watered down stuff from open bars, they make each drink from scratch
and put in a full jigger of liquor of your choice) snorkling equipment,
lifevest, towels, lockers, floating tubes. It's absolutely worth it if
you are there for the whole day
snorkel for a couple of hrs, and when you come up to the shore
starving, you can just go to the restaurant 100ft away and enjoy a full
meal!
The main attraction of the park is of course snorkling along the river.
You can also snorkel in some of the cenotes (sink holes). The water in
the cenotes are usually very clear. land activities include eco hikes, bicycling along the park's trails, or kayaking.
the cheapest way to get to the park is to take the bus from the central
bus station in downtown cancun. it runs about usd$12 round trip on an
air conditioned coach, pretty comfortable.
