After leaving Grand Junction, where Kylie made me feel completely comfortable, I headed towards Colorado National Monument.

25 miles
2300 aggregrate climb
3 hours of bike time
$ 4 entrance fee

After paying my 4 dollar entrance fee I heard a squeaky noise and that never can be a good thing.  Low and behold I have a flat tire.  At first I was pissed off and then I thought to myself that this is all part of the trip.  I actually enjoyed fixing the tire, for multiple reasons; good practice for next time that it happens, I had good weather,  I was next to a Ranger and I had a rock seat to change the tire.  Its all about your mind-set on things.  Always try to find the good out of the bad and that really will take you a long way.

After the flat I had a good 4 mile climb of at least 1500 feet, but the views were well worth it.  They call this place the "Little Grand Canyon."  Millions and millions of years of erosion due to wind, heat, ice, etc. have shaped these rock formations into what they are today.  Riding along the mesa (the plateau) was literally breath-taking especially for cyclist.  If you fall to the right you will end up about 2000 feet lower than where you just were.  Pretty intimadating, pero si vale la pena!

I found a campground within the park and it was my first time camping alone but that made it more thrilling.  I have a mesh ceiling tent so I could see the stars.  However, my night consisted of getting the dust out of my eyes and mouth because it was so damn windy.  Ill just have to put up the "fly" part of the tent to protect me a little more.  All part of the learning process.

21 degrees F when I woke up.

Spent all morning writing in my journal and reflecting about the journey.  I truly do love this stuff.  Being in the outdoors is truly a unique experience.

People have been so positive and geniue with me.  I havent seen that since my Peace Corps days in Ecuador.

Im staying in another campground tonight and the only reason is to watch the baseball game tonight.

Heading to Moab tomorrow.

If you have any suggestions let me know.

What was the first National Park established in the world and what year?
