Where I stayed
in the midst of Sin

Today I have departed from the crazy, insane, heartbreaking, and tormenting lives of the characters in Tricks. No longer will I watch Ginger, Whitney, and Eden turn tricks and whore themselves to survive. No longer will I watch Cody do the same and suffer through his confusing questions of his sexuality. And no longer shall I see Seth be taken advantage of by so many men who do not give a fuck about him.
It amazes me that after spending so much time in places like Idaho, San Francisco, and Indiana, that every single one of these characters led me back to Sin City. Each of them went to Vegas for various reasons, but they all ended up selling their bodies for survival.
Their disturbing experiences brought back my own memories of the life I once had in Las Vegas. Although I never sold myself or experienced anything similar to what these 5 plus people did, there are incidences, which I will not go into detail about, that sill haunt me to this day. Six years in Las Vegas was a enough for me. Perhaps one day I'll return at the age of twenty-one to gamble and party, but never shall I again experience the seedy underbelly of that city of sin that I witnessed in this story.
I wish the best of luck to all of the characters, main and otherwise, in this novel. But I am afraid that Ellen Hopkins' words may have taunted me for the last time. These past few weeks of travel have been fucked up, disturbing, and most of all exhausting. Goodbye Tricks. Goodbye to Eden, Whitney, Ginger, Seth, and Cody. Goodbye to Alex, Ginger's one-time lover and best friend. And farewell to all of the pricks in this story that helped made these unfortunate characters who they are today. Goodbye.
