We exited the halls of Warhol endowed prints and entered a chamber filled with white mannequins adorned in the finest couture fabrics, gowns, silk blouses, fur coats, and deco prints. The most amazing element of this exhibit was the case featuring designer oxford heels, I believe they were dolce and gabbana, with two knock offs, one priced at $100, the other priced at about $30, a mere smidgen of the original gabannas priced around $700.
Philip enjoyed reading about the history of the old Charlotte Mint, for which the museum is named. The Mint was operated in Charlotte until seized by the Confederates in the civil war, and the building itself was later relocated and reestablished as the art museum. It has been renovated and expanded through the years to become Charlotte's celebrated museum of art for the enjoyment of the masses.
I would recommend a visit to the museum for all Charlotte tourists, but I do hope in time to see an expansion of the couture exhibit...I believe it has potential to be much more.
