Found a map of the trek area - Shimla is in the bottom left.

Kinnaur-Spiti trek

The plan is Shimla - Sarahan - Sangla - Chitkul - Sangla - Kalpa - Kafnu [not on map, just to west of Recong Peo] by jeep. Then trek up north to near Mud. The jeep is 5 days, the trek 6 days. From there we make our own way by bus etc, probably to Kaza, Ki, Kibber, then on to Manali in the north-west. Maybe I'll head to Leh after that.

Shimla cloud

This morning I got up at 5am and hauled myself up another hill to Jakoo Temple. I heard it is nice at dawn. It's 300m higher than here - about a km of steep climbing, like Bitch Hill in Bangor leading to St Mary's.

What a monumental waste of my life. Not only was it exhausting, but it wasn't impressive, the view was obscured by thick cloud and the sun never rose, due to said cloud. Meh. The only good thing was that I arrived back just in time. The heavens opened and it rain solidly all day. The buggers in the internet place [the spurned trek organisers from yesterday] felt the need to tell me than a) the guide at the other place is a drunk and b) inner-line permits must be applied for in person not though the organisers. Maybe the second is true. I don't know. The first... I doubt it. And anyway, if this is their way of trying to win back my custom they are definitely going about it wrong. They chatted while I was on the internet, in Hindi, but felt the need to switch to English when discussing the weather. I can see that it is raining thank you. And if the trip is off, then so be it. No need to be petty.

Honestly.

great info
Hi izzie, i found your blgo through Google. Myself and my husband want to go for a weekend break to somewhere in North India in the monsoons. But we dont want to go to the hills- bcoz we have already been to most of the hill stations and also because driving down the hill during monsoons can be a little risky. This blog:http://www.yatra.com/blogs/2008/07/03/travel-destinations-for-indian-monsoons/ adviced me to go to Corbett. The greenery in the monsoons can be enticing. Planning to check it out.

Corbett closed
I know I've emailed you, but I thought I'd put it here in case anyone else reads the recommendation. Corbett is closed during the monsoon, starting mid-June.
