Day the Twenty-second - in which we mostly sleep and nothing of interest happens.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Got a taxi to the Nairobi Youth Hostel. Pretty pricey, especially as there was no hot water. Nairobi is overcast and chilly. Cold shower - brrrr! At least we feel clean now.
Heeding warnings about Nairobi [or Nairobbery] we walked into town with nothing on us except what we needed to change money. It seems safe enough to me. Sure at night it's probably not, but during the day everyone around seems to be just going about their business. It's more like Benoni than Jo'burg. I'm still kinda waiting for the other shoe to drop.
We had some crappy lunch and bought bus tickets to Kakamega for tomorrow. Internet! Yey, and it's fast! Reassured our parents of our continuing existence.
Went to get supplies [more toilet paper, some soap, some food for the journey tomorrow] in a supermarket. Which was a bit mad after a week in Southern Ethiopia. Craziness when Mafikizolo 'Ndihambe Nawe' came on the radio!
Then back, where we both promptly fell asleep until 8pm. Deciding to have some good old-fashioned tasty food while we could, we got a taxi into town to an Italian restaurant. We had a cheese pizza which was really delicious but far too rich for our stomachs after 3 weeks of injera. We didn't finish and spent the rest of the evening nursing aching tummies. Totally worth it though...
Arranged taxi to bus company tomorrow, then averted disaster by discovering a flood in the ladies bathroom. I think I know where all the hot water is.
Worried that Stef may be getting ill since he feels a bit crappy. Could not get warm in bed. How can it be so cold in Nairobi - we're practically on the equator for crying out loud!
Cold day in Nairobi
It certainly is cold in Nairobi as the long rains are starting to check in.Were in for a cold spell but comparing to the cold of June and August i think this is child's play. After all the days are warm and balmy it only gets chilly in the mornings and evenings.Get a fire roaring dress warmly and you should be fine.
