Guatemala´s second city, Quetzaltenango is a relaxed and relatively safe city, relatively safe as the pickpockets couldnt pick Andre the Giant´s giant pockets.
For this reason we decided to hole up here for a week and get some Spanish under our belts, belts containing ´hola´ and ´get sus manos out of my pockets´.
Learning Spanish for a week hurts. The past preterite can blow me!
Our homestay family included Maria, Maria dos (her twin sister who we only recognised as such when seeing the two together) and their two stinky dogs who cocked their legs on anything smelling just sweeter than five-day camping poontang.
After completing the week, we proudly collected our certificates and endulged in an extravagant graduation party.
This was the first time more than four beers passed our lips since leaving the US so the drink worked wonders. Pretty handy as Woody lost a coin toss and had to resurect Elvis in his performance of Jailhouse Rock in front of La Escuela and its spotty students.
The evening finished in a trance club with Heather and Woody pointing arms up to the sky joined by Tony, the 45 year-old camp Guatemalan teacher - FUN.
