We are alive.
We missed the earthquake in Quebec and the mosquitoes have taken 10 pints of my blood - but alive nonetheless. What an incredible weekend!!!
On Thursday (24th of June), we travelled from Montreal to Ottawa on the greyhound bus. We had lunch with Andrew and Jenn (friends of Ivor's) and then Erica and Tyler arrived to take us to the Cottage. After a smooth journey (despite running a red light!) we arrived in something that I thought you only saw in movies ..
A camp fire had already been made so there was nothing else to do but make mojitos and relax! We sat around the fire, chatting, drinking wine, beer, chatting, drinking more wine and beer and somewhere around 3am the idea of needing a bar in the woods was hatched...... by Ivor with the architect being Tyler.
On Friday Ivor and I went for a canoe trip around the lake. I fished for the first time ever (and caught 5 fish from 7 attempts!). We spent the day relaxing, reading, swimming in the lake and preparing for everyone else to arrive. Friends and family of Erica and Tyler's arrived with reinforcements - more alcohol and a load of wood to make the bar. A few hours, bottles of vodka, crates of beer and cases of wine later and a bar came to life at midnight. The next door neighbours arrived (not sure if it was to complain about the noise or not!) but they stayed and joined in the party. Ivor then introduced Canada to "ride the bus". I managed to stay up for the christening of the bar but then crashed - I think that Ivor got to bed around 6am
Saturday was more of the same although my fishing trip resulted in me catching a bigger fish than Ivor (although Ivor posed for the pictures below because I didn't want to touch it!). It was decided that the hangovers were as a result of not having eaten on Friday night and nothing to do with the quantity of alcohol that was consumed so we cooked a huge bbq and retreated to the fire and nearby bar.
We sat comfortably (or not so comfortably if you were Neil) and laughed a lot (especially when Jenn, Erica and I thought we should creep up on everyone in camouflage (but ended up looking like American footballers and then finished our look off with straw hats) - don't ask it was funny at the time!).
Another late night and late morning, more lake swimming, canoeing, fishing and bbq-ing before packing up and heading back to Ottawa for a relaxed evening at Andrew and Jenn's, including a much needed shower, pizza and a film.
We are now safely in Toronto after a 5 hour drive (thanks for driving Erica) and will update you on that soon.
