A quick flight from Lima lands us in Cusco, Peru. Cusco is the launch point for all excursions "Inca," as well as adventure and mountain sports. Cusco is interesting in itīs own right as many of the towns buildings are built using the old Inca ruins as their foundations. Throughout the town, huge Inca carved blocks provide the support for hotels, churches and residential homes. Having an inca wall as your foundation is a good thing. Despite not having any mortar between the blocks, the Incas built earthquake proof buildings 500 years ago. Precise angles and stone cuts insured their buildings didnīt tumble during the many Peruvian earthquakes. Too bad Cal-trans doesnīt have Inca engineers.
