A late night arrival in Quito brought us directly to the hotel.  Quito is the capital of Ecuador and appears to be as modern a city as any in the U.S.    During our boarding off the plane we met an exchange student who was returning from learning English in Humboldt (interesting choice for learning English).  We were lucky enough to share a van with him on the way to the Centro Historico so we received some local advice.  Old town is slightly unsettling at night.  Itīs appearance, coupled with the warning from our companion of "donīt go out here at night" made us initially question our choice for our visit to Quito.  Weīll just have to see how it goes...
