Our first official ruins! Teotihuacán the oldest ruin in Mexico. A city built over 2000 years ago, that diverted a river and housed as many as 200,000 people (counts vary) - it was pretty impressive. Basing our trip from an R.V park in the adjacent town, we spent the entire day touring the ruins. We started by climbing the Temple of the Moon, which is the smaller of the two pyramids. The Street of the Dead runs right into the Temple of the Moon, and is the main north-south road through the old city. (Obviously Mexico´s obsession with death started before the Spaniards arrived...) From the Temple of the Moon, we cruised into a few of the high priests diggs, complete with jaguar frescoes and images of the serpent god. The Temple of the Sun, the taller of the two pyramids was next. There was a very entertaining group of tourists at the top, complete with the guy who was pointing out the blood to everyone from the ancient sacrifices. (You know...because it would still be there!) We ate lunch in the "botanical garden" which was actually a very nice spot except that we were surrounded by a bunch of wild dogs (another common Mexican occasion...but we´ll write more on that later...). We took a lot of pictures, which really sum it all up better than I ever could. As soon as we find a fast enough Internet connection - we´ll post all the pictures from the most recent blogs!
