San Luis Potosi was like the other Mexican cities we have visited. The outskirts were fairly industrial with a colonial center. However, this center was quite nice because a few blocks of it were pedestrian only. Also, it was the first example of a real colonial "heart" of a city. We stayed a few blocks from El Centro at the old train station. While our hotel room was nice, roomy and very clean - the surrounding neighborhood was a bit dodgy. The plazas and churches in the Centro were very nice, as was the shopping and restaurants. We went to a Museum that had quite a large collection of Pre-Hispanic remains, which included artifacts from the Mayans, Olmecs and Aztecs...preparation for our visits to the ruins. The exhibits included a box where humans were kept before being sacrificed to the gods. Paul thought this would be an excellent place for children to have their "time-outs." We didn't spend too much time in San Luis de Potosi as we were both anxious to move on to Zacatecas.
