We arrived in Monterey after a somewhat chaotic day of red tape crossing the border. For those of you considering this, know that the travel books are wrong! The most accurate information was available from the chamber of commerce in Laredo. Suffice to say, you can accomplish all things, tourist and vehicular via the motor bridge #2.

Monterey was a good introduction for a big city in Mexico. Driving in these cities is chaotic at best, and frightening! I will NOT be driving into Mexico city! The preferred method of driver educate is horn honking, and nobody lets you merge, it´s simply a matter of signaling and forcing your way into the lane. Just prior to lights turning green, you will receive a horn just to let you know you better get going. We managed to find the hotel and check in to a room. We brought our own sheets along for camping in the bus and we could not have been happier to have them. We suspect (the books also suspect) that our hotel also practices renting rooms by the hour. We stripped the bed and used our own bedding!

Monterey has some great museums and very progressive architecture. We had a lunch of local specialties in the bario antigua (smoked chapulines included)and toured the museum contemporary art. Great exhibitions of world photos and different urban planning designs demonstrated that the U.S. is clearly not the leader in eco-friendly urban planning. We´ll add some photos later, no ports available for upload here. Off to Santillo!
