Rach and I discovered a new word in Mexico. Buffet. Its pronounced slightly differently to the way we say it, but that could have just been the mounds of food we shoved in.. ahh Buffet. A wonder of Guadalajara indeed. What do you want for breakfast Rach? Buffet. Lunch? Buffet.. Afternoon tea? Buffet. Great times.
After filling up on buffet we bussed it out to the little town of Tlapapaque nearby and wandered about the place, church, markets, sunshine, beer stops and had a lovely afternoon. But then we had to figure out how to get back to Guadalajara! The tourist info place had marked a vague spot on the vague map and said the bus would take us back from there. And then said she wasnt 100% sure! We couldnt find the bus and after much wandering around, waiting at wrong bus stops and getting odd stares from people we managed a bus that was at least going in our direction! He dropped us off in the back streets of town (lucky we had already mastered them due to my insane map reading skills) and we think attempted to give us directions. We eventually found our hotel again!
After buffeting around Guadalajara we booked in for a bus trip to the town of Tequila. Not that either of us could drive really anyway (wrong side of the road and all) but a designated bus driver seemed a sensible option. Shame the tourist info people sent us to the wrong spot and we missed the tour bus! Never girls to give up something like a trip to Tequila we made our own way there on public transport. The bus pulled up at a place that had a lot of signs saying Tequila, but we had no idea whether it was a bar or the town. After wandering around many a back street we finally found the main square and distillery. An elderly man hustled us through a locked gate in, much to the horror of the security guards who quickly hustled us out. Not the first time Ive been kicked out of such a place, at least these guys pointed us to the main gate! We went in and signed up for a tour in English and found that we were the only ones who wanted this and so we got a private tour around the place. Our guide was hilarious and kept telling us she was practicing her English and asking us cute little questions.. and then laughing at my face with each sample we tried! Tequilla is not a drink I am known for handling all to well and by the end of the tour the guide was our new bestie, we are sure of it! They sure know how to plan the place though, at the end of the tour was the souvineer shop.. and we had been on the premium tour so that meant lots of samples.. and now we had to figure out how to get back to Guadalajara!
We hopped on another bus and after all those samples i fell asleep and woke up starving back in Guadalajara. Tried to find another buffet but ended up in this dodgy "international" hotel with bland bland food. Teach me to eat outside a buffet..
