We drove to meet Emily on Whidbey Island on Friday night, Whidbey Island is quite near Seattle, but not so near Vancouver so we arrived at about 11.00 and then hung out for a few hours with Emily's friends chatting. It was quite a pretty drive once we got to the Island with the sun setting on the water and lots of greenery. On waking up on Saturday morning we were informed there was a tire swing, this was of course after I had already gotten dressed in a dress, with a pulley system that made it swing even higher. Naturally (I am from the a semi rural area after all!) I had to give it a go and now have bruising on my legs and arms, with a bit of rope burn. I certainly look like I had an interesting weekend! It was great fun though I did scream rather girlishly at times.
We then caught the ferry into Seattle and headed to the Pike Markets. Josh excitedly led us to a magic store where there was an Elvis fortune teller and some funny business cards "I'm not wearing anything under this" and then we headed off to the Pike Brewery, a micro brewery. I'm becoming a big fan of the micro brewery and will miss them when i head home. After a few pints we headed off to the Space Needle. The Space Needle, to me, is one of those icons that has implanted itself in my head and I had one of those "I cant believe I am finding myself here" moments. I do love a tall building too. In the tourist shop Brad was playing with a mini camera, the kind that has slides inside for little kids, and an old lady thought Brad was taking pictures of her and her family said to him "Did you get enough photos" in a disgusted tone.
There is also a fun park at the bottom of the Space Needle so we went on a few rides as well.
We went to a lovely bar and sat on the balcony for a while and then headed to a friend of Emily's party. Leaving the party on Saturday night to head off to bed we passed a bunch of people on the sidewalk. As Tracey pulled the car away we overheard them say "There goes a car load of trouble".
Sunday mostly consisted of going to breakfast. First it took us all ages to get ready, then we had to wait 45 minutes for a table as there was 6 of us, then our orders took about 30 minutes to arrive.. by the time we finished breakfast it was about 2.00. We decided to not hurry the touristy things in and just hung out with Emily, Josh and his brother for the rest of the day. Emily is moving to Seattle in August so we are definitely heading back! Plus I have to hand my three month USA visa waiver form back in by September 1st..
Coming back across the border into Canada there was a long queue, after sitting in the hot sun for a while Tracey and I got out of the car to have a bit of a stretch around the border park. On the way back to the car I loudly said to Tracey "Do you think we can get some guy to pick us up?". We walked over to Brad, leaned in the window to say hi and then hopped in the car to the utter amazement of the older man in the car next to us.
It was scorching hot the entire weekend, and though I whined about being hot - i do love being in the sunshine.
