Luxembourg, Luxembourg - where we tried to speak Luxembourgian and we ate at the Luxembourg Cafe and drank Luxembourgian Beer at the Luxembourgian cafe.. and then managed to see most of the country in 4 days! What a place.

Casemates

Using the much-mentioned Luxembourg card we decided to have a look at the casements. These are a series of underground tunnels, at one stage there was 25km of them, but they were ordered to be destroyed and now there are 17km left, though this amount seems to vary depending on who you ask. They are each about 5km long and don't join up to each other to stop those enemies taking over(though I have no idea how anyone in a country that was constantly being taken over could remember who their enemies were). In the casemates our guide pointed out a little hole in the wall, which showed by a sneaky trick of the angle the hallway next to it (without showing the person in the second hallway). By seeing the hallway you could see who was coming up it, and if they were wearing the wrong colour pants (showing they were from a different army to you) you could shoot them. Lucky for me my jeans were the right colour and I made it out safely.

Guards!

The youth hostel we stayed in was walkable from town (without our bags walkable though) and was quite new and one of the best I have stayed in. I was quite happy about that and there was a bit of icing on the cake when I bought a chocolate bar from the vending machine and out popped two bars! The vending machine was bolted to the wall so I think that has happened before but since it wasn't anything to do with me shaking the machine, I just gave a thanks to the gods of chocolate and snuck away without meeting anyone's eyes.. in case they could see the look of sneaky guilt in my eyes..
