Hello all!

And welcome to my very exciting travel blog for while I am away in the great land of the Chinese (or the red communists at my mom prefers to call them). I'll be using this lovely internet device to keep you all up to date on my every move. The two main goals of this blog...

1.Share my great insights on Chinese culture
2.Be more entertaining than Becca's Ghana blog

Today I returned home from a weekend visiting the homies in Austin. Still a little sore from kayaking in the tri-ak with Alex and Nick yesterday. Still a little tired from high amounts of adrenalin and alcohol consumption. And still broken hearted from loosing my sunglasses and favorite shirt, but mostly broken hearted from having to leave the kids behind again after just getting a chance to see some of them.
But that's all in the past now, and now it's time to get down with serious business -- packing. Bleh.

It's interesting to be here in the United States today and in another country two days from now, but I guess it is comparable to any sort of change. Leaving school, leaving San Diego, first day of high school -- little fun stressful situations as such. I remember my first day of high school, good shit.

I guess what I'm least excited about is the initial orientation days in which everyone wants to make friends and impress each other because I've finally reached a point where I have little interests in trying to impress my friends, and now I have to dive back in to that mentality. I don't want to try to be cool. Gah.

Also the amount of incomprehensible short Chinese conversations between me and all of the other students with a year of experience with the language is going to get old quickly, but maybe I'll be the first to admit that I just want to speak English. I value connecting over expanding my own abilities. Whomp. Selfish American.

These are the things I've been wondering lately...
- Do gay clubs exist in Beijing?
- How much wifi is there in the city?
- What music is popular?
- What are Chinese television fads?
- Do people read a lot? Is that culturally cool?
- Are hippies a thing? Anywhere?
- Are iPhones popular?
- Is meditation cool?
- How fly are people my age going to be dressed? Will I be a loser? Should I bring my pink pants?
- How do I pack a bag that is under 50 lbs?

Okay that's more than enough for one brain to consider. I have a list of more lofty questions that I will answer throughout the semester on a different entry that will be dedicated purely to debunking these questions.

Now I plan to go soak up the most American culture possible by watching a movie while taking a bath and eating chocolate or marshmallows or something! This is when I wish I had a blunt.

Hahahahahahaha!!! I wish you had a blunt, too. And just remember that you can bring one carry on item, PLUS a purse, and the carry on can be however heavy you want, as long as it's "small"-ish. I packed like...4 days' clothes into my carry on. Plus my laptop. Plus my stuffed bear. And some other shit. Oh my goodness you're having so much fun!

When I'm wondering whether or not to bring my pink pants, the answer is ALWAYS yes.
