The as-yet gentle tropical sun backlights the hedge by the lodge, turning single drops of water at the pointed tips of perfect leaves into shining stars,  brighter than twilight's fireflies.

The ordinariness of a squirrel hopping through the trees is shattered as its too-dark body nips at the base of a bromeliad.

Graceful egrets gather in a tree above, becoming hunched white masses of white, like grumpy, fat brides.

Two birds alight  on the porch-rail, trilling their wake up alarm into the room where bob remains asleep under the mosquito net.

individual drops sparkle and drip, adding an erratic, quiet percussion to the dawn's insect/bird soundtrack.

an occasional dry, brown leaf drops, floating down to join others on the green metal roof.

The only bird that will pause and pose for me is a plain fellow indeed.

I try to avoid poetry, so wrote sentences instead!
