One may think that taking all of the trouble to get to Lyon from Paris  to spend only a day there would not be worth it.... and they would be wrong. Our hosts alone have made the trip worth while. We are staying with a very environmentally friendly couple who also happen to be vegetarian, which makes for some interesting meals. Pumpkin, cheese, and eggplant lasagna one night followed by zucchini, sweet peppers, and tortilla bites the next. And the dessert, a fruit pie where the only fruit i could identify was apple. It is nice after a day to taste something other than mucus (did i forget to mention Ive seemed to acquire a cold. Don't worry Ms. Thames, I haven't given it to Robby yet.) Along with being good cooks and all they are very friendly people that went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Another stop with freshly cleaned clothes! This morning we made our way into to town and we looked up. There lied a church, much like the Sacre Couer in Paris, ironically at the highest point in Lyon, much like the Sacre Couer was in Paris How could i resist

. We naturally followed our "hasn't failed us yet" sense of direction up the winding cobbled roads and flights of staircases. We were very surprised to see such old architecture in the houses. They seemed to date back to at least the 19th century. The part of town where we stepped off the bus was very modern in architecture. And then, as we crested what appeared to be the final staircase lied in the middle of the hill Ancient Roman Runes. We had gone through three Architectural time periods in the time span of a hour. The runes dated back to 15 BC! And what we saw was the remnants of a Roman theater or stadium. That is the best part of exploring, coming upon things you had no idea existed. We decided to continue our ascent after our jaws found there way back to a position of comfort and soon arrived at our destination. This church, was actually a basilica, and had one of the most intricately designed interiors we have seen yet. And the view was terrific. All of Lyon. We spotted another highpoint and decided to make our way over there. On our trek over, we had failed attempts at entering the cities traboules (indoor passages). Fatigue, hunger, and thirst began to set in so a change of scenery was called for. We zipped over to the Lyon city park and before I knew it we were walking through a rosary that was so serene and my senses all seemed to be heightened at once. I found a peace of mind and my other worries were vanquished. Who would have ever known there were so many different types of Roses? I honestly think we have walked over 500 miles so far this trip, and we are so used to it it does not faze us anymore. Tomorrow we are off to Bordeaux and to our liking the house we will be staying at has 2 two males living there, one year older and one year younger. They live near the ocean and they surf!

Fait accompli
Mai oui, you are both so adventourous. Glad to know your cold seems to be getting better. Lots of fluids.
A rose garden, fragrant and colorful. I can see it in my mind from your description. Well you have eaten vegetarian before, and liked it, so it is familiar to you. What wonderful hosts you have had. I really enjoyed the pictures. How smart of you to keep posting them. More great adventures ahead. Je ne sais quoi?

Sounds like a great day!
Great adventures Isaac and great writing! This is so awesome walking along with you! Too bad you didn't wear step counters on this trip! Are we going to get surfing stories in your next entry? Yikes! Hope your cold gets better soon. Check your 1st aid kit. I'm sure your mom tucked in a remedy for you. If not, Robby has something ;-) Yes, I'm still a mom thousands of miles away!
