Spent the day walking up and down the Strip having a look at all the tacky casinos. I now know what the Crown in Melbourne was modelled after. The interior of every casino was brown.. maybe there's some sort of scientific research that says brown carpet makes you gamble more. The exterior of the casinos ranged from REALLY tacky, eg. The Mirage which had waterfalls and bird noises, Treasure Island where we were staying had a pirate ship. Then there was the tacky but impressive, eg. The Venetian which was Venice including canals, gondolas (which cost almost as much as the real ones in Venice to ride!), the Doges Palace and the Rialto Bridge, the Paris - which had the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and the Opera Garnier and New York, New York which had the Statue of Liberty and the New York city skyline. Best one - the Bellagio, and not because of Ocean's 13 and World Poker Tour, but because of the fountains which play in time with music, very cool. We also went to the Coca Cola shop and the M&Ms shop (yeah.. we're suckers for merchandising). If you want to see branding in action, have a look at Coke.. everything from lip balm to Christmas ornaments. M&Ms was cool, we bought different colour M&Ms - lots of different colours including pink, maroon and black. In the evening, we gorged ourselves on seafood and steak at a buffet, and then went and saw our second Cirque du Soleil show - Ka. The set was very impressive - was a futuristic setting with fire and a huge stage which started off horizontal, but was able to lift so it was vertical and then rotate, so the performers were hanging off it. The finale included fireworks - they really can put on a show.
