sometimes being anal retentive helps.   i had almost everything packed by the time jason arrived wednesday night.   jason worked quickly and smoothly to finish the last bits and get his paperwork lined up.

for katrina---we already stacked pennies.  photo to come soon.   we were both so fried that it was actually comical that we were both doing it.   however, we came out with something like $105 in change! rolled up and ready to go to the bank.    not just pennies though, in case you were wondering how long we spent on it.

we had the moving truck ready to go bright and early on saturday morning.   thanks to pete, peloza, mia, brian, kim and mack for helping us make quick work of the move.  we were in the storage unit HOURS before i had imagined
like being inside a giant game of tetris!!! but thankfully without the music

so we were able to get to the cabin early to get it ready to go.

stacey, jake, cassidy and timber came out to have a good day out at the cabin in exchange for helping us hoof all the gear back out to the road.

so now starts the living out of the backpack.
on the floor of the empty apartment
on thermarests
in sleeping bags
still trying to go to work until wednesday.......
a very interesting process this is.   you can't really pack for the trip because you are living on the stuff for the trip.  and you don't want to have extra stuff around because that just means more to pack to the storage unit.

because of the help of our friends, some good planning and hard work, we can relax a bit.

this evidently means becoming completely useless for irene.
no worries, we leave on saturday morning.
maybe a run will do us some good.

You're Almost On Your Way!
Whoo whoo - the trip of a lifetime is just hours away!

Thanks to everyone who has helped Irene and Jason prepare for this adventure through sanity checks, help packing, help moving, conquering Tetris, and taking Irene out on hikes! Your love and support I am sure were integral to making this all possible!

I am sure I am speaking for everyone that we're all looking forward to reading all your updates Jason & Irene, and living vicariously through you this next year! :-)

See you guys close to the 12th!

Safe & Sound
Glad you guys were able to aclimatize to each other by doing the drive to lower 48 together. Different being around each other 24hr/day huh? Doug was still doubting that Jason was a real person but the proof is in the picture. Relieved you made it out of Mexico City safe & sound. Culture shock from uncrowded, wide open spaces at home. Perm Fund $1654 will buy you lots of new locks & super ear plugs. Get to Key Calker in Belize and enjoy the clear blue waters, conch and rum (which can be used as stove fuel). Clap when you land at Tegusegapa airport in Honduras then splurg on a dive trip and experience giant coral & sponges. Your Spanish ought be be getting pretty good by now...always use your visa (Bye) Sharon & Doug
