Farah and I caught the same plane to Lima, she was also heading to North Perú and Ecuador. After my near mugging in Lima last time, I really wasn't interested in hanging around, at least I had Farah to look after me this time! We immediately bought bus tickets to get out of Lima as soon as we arrived, and had about 4 hours to kill before we needed to be back at the bus station. The added bonus was that it'd be daylight for the entire time here.
We took a taxi into town and the driver was a hoot. He was married to a Dutch lady and insisted on telling us his entire life history. The best bit was when he brought out a baseball bat explaining that it was for his passengers! I assured him that we'd behave and he'd not need to use it. Of course, he really meant that it was for the protection of his passengers. I hadn't thought that Lima could have gone down any further in my estimation, but if he really needed that bat.....
In the end it was actually pretty good. We had a wander around the streets, we had a great lunch in the hotel where the Pisco Sour was invented. Of course I had to pay homage to this superb drink. We also visited the China town here, which I wasnŽt particularly impressed by, IŽd probably got my fill of real China towns while in China!
At one point we passed a big group of people in the street filling in crosswords and other puzzles in their newspapers. We had a closer look to satisfy our curiosity, some one was selling photocopied answers to the ones offering prizes. I guess it's a nice little sideline.
With that it was time to head back to the bus station and get out of the city of vampires before sundown. IŽd actually had a nice day there, but I still didnŽt have any desire to stay any longer.
