More diving :)
Entry 22 of 43 | show all | print this entry |
I: A few days of island hopping behind us. First we took the boat to Koh Phangan, and stayed there for a few days before moving to Koh Tao, where we had our second diving course arranged for us.
In Koh Phangan there wasn't too much to do, even if we rented a scooter for two days. It wasn't time for the (very famous) full moon party, so (they said) there weren't too many people on the island. For us it felt like too much anyway. Well, at least we celebrated the half moon a little bit :) And on the day we were leaving it was celebration for the Thai New Year -and the celebration was quite different than at home. The other name for it is Water Festival, although I think they should call it Water war Festival. Everybody were carrying water pistols or buckets or anything filled with water which they threw over everyone and anyone. Already in the morning while driving to the port we got sprayed with water ten times and a few times with dyed water. It's fun, because it's so hot that everybody's just happy to get wet. Not so enjoyable, though, with our heavy luggage...
In Phangan we arranged for an Advanced Open Water Diver course in Koh Tao. We did it through Tan Travel, which is managed by a nice slovak guy, and they seemed to have nice offers. At least we were very happy with the arrangements for our course (thanks Tomas ;)
In Koh Tao we didn't have much time for anything else than our diving course, but we were quite hapy about it, because the island didn't seem very exciting. Neither of the islands we visited had nice beaches or even that clear water (compared to Koh Mook or Perhentians), and way too much people for our taste. The diving course was nice, although the diving sites weren't that exciting (and they were packed with other divers), and we weren't convinced about the company's professionalism either. But at least we got our advanced certificates, and are now allowed to dive down to 30 m :)
