My friends Kylie and Bec who i met some 4 years ago on Vodachat (and who i hadnt met in person until now) flew out to meet me and also to attend Mardi Gras 30th anniversary.
As this was Kylie and Bec's first visit to Sydney it was only fitting that i recommend that they see Sydney Harbour via a cruise.
Having been on a Vagabond cruise a few weeks earlier and thoroughly enjoying it, it made the most sense and given their short amount of time in Sydney it was an easy and extremely enjoyable way to soak in Sydney's Harbour in one go.
Originally i was going to take another Vagabond cruise but i wasnt particularly fussed on their choice of cruise ship this time around so we opted to scoop out the other available cruises and found Majistic Cruises
For $40 it was a 2 hour cruise (longer than the 1 and a half cruise with Vagabond) and it included an alcoholic beverage with the price and as it was departing at 2pm, it was only a 15min before we boarded, so it was perfect.
The weather was temperamental and i was becoming slightly disheartened by the overcast skies above.
After a few minutes aboard rain started to fall and all of us who were outside on the upper deck ran for cover - this is not how i wanted the cruise to play out but with a bit of luck the skies cleared up and my mood switched back to positive.
The 2 hour cruise is quite extensive and great value for money. The pre-recorded guide becoming annoying and a bit distracting but i managed to block her voice out.
The cruise starts out past the Sydney Opera House, Fort Denison, Shark Island, Watson's Bay then into Middle Harbour near North and south heads 9the only entrance into Sydney Harbour. As we turned into Middle Harbour the seas become rough and we hit water turbulence, i was outside with a handful of others whilst Kylie & Bec remained seated inside.
The catamaran was violently going up and down and i had to hold on to avoid being thrown around the front of the Catamaran
It was both scary and a dare i say it....fun. Being able to see when we were about to hit a wave and either dip dramatically or bounce upwardly, it prevented any kind of threat of sea sickness for me. once we proceeded near Balmoral the tipsy turvy rocking of the catamaran had ceased and the sun came out in full force. From Balmoral we cruised into The Spit area and then looped back around into middle harbour - the seas becoming temporarily erratic again and the captain this time alerting people to take their seats- which mostly went ignored by those of us outside.
The water turbulence wasnt anything like it had been previously except the wind was more brutal than before.
We then passed Taronga Zoo,Kirribilli House, Under the Harbour Bridge, past Luna park, King Street Wharf and back around into Circular Quay.
The only thing i didnt like about the cruise was the fact on the pre-recorded guide it stated we were near the Glebe Island Bridge (Anzac Bridge) and Darling Harbour when in fact we werent, aside from that it was miles better than Vagabond cruise i had been on previously.
