Palm Beach is considered the jewel of the Northern Beaches, it's the northernmost suburb of Sydney, less than an hour drive from the CBD. Nestled on a landmark peninsula, it is blessed with a unique contrast of lush evergreen bushland and beaches of golden sand, enveloped by the pristine blue waters of the Pacific Ocean and the calm sailing paradise of Pittwater. A unique environmental awareness blending breathtaking views with quaint cottages and palatial homes, ensures that Palm Beach will forever enjoy a lifestyle of relaxed and casual affluence.

We headed to Palm Beach purely because Nathan had never been and he was also curious to see the home of "Home & Away" which is filmed here. Because Whale Beach is next door and my favourite beach we headed there soon after.

Whale Beach is relatively ignored in comparision to it's popular and touristy neighbour Palm Beach. Despite its neighour's appeal Whale Beach is far my appealing to me and was one of my regular haunting grounds i unfortunately dont get there enough these days.

Part of Whale beach's problem is accessibility, ironically its also its appeal. you can only get there by car (no ferry services the beach, although RTA buses apparently service the area im still miffed as how a bus navigates the roads... ) and there is little in way of road signage to direct one to the beach. The only sign is along the road to Palm Beach , the turn off sign being the last of it's kind, almost like they don't want you to find it. Roads in this region are hazardous narrow affairs and accidents in "waiting". You drive uphill through very narrow roads and if you know where you're going you will come back down the hill to find a secluded beach that is Whale Beach. For most of the year Whale Beach remains somewhat deserted as many of the properties are holiday homes to Sydney's elite

The beach has long been synonymous as a playground for the rich and famous. The pristine stretch of beach is protected by a headland at both ends giving it a feeling of isolation and protection. The beach is lined with palm trees and the carpark is virtually on the sand. The beach has a very "local" feel to it which only adds to Whale Beach's charm and appeal. Also worth a mention there are some homes just a few minutes walk from the beach that can be rented out of peak holiday time at reasonable rates.
