We did the early morning start for the bus again from San Gil to Bucaramanga which is a city in Colombia noted for itīs famous hormiga culona, a large ant that is fried and eaten. Shaun from the hostel leads ant hunting tours where they catch ants and prepare them. Unfortunately, we didnīt have the time to fry some up because we just made it for the last bus heading to Santa Marta on the Carribbean coast in the north. The bus took us all day and we basically just enjoyed the scenery and watched movies in Spanish. We never saw any other gringos on this trail. We are told most travel at night but we didnīt want to miss the small towns and farms of Colombia not to mention the dramatic scenery and feel we made the best choice.
The best scenery was on the winding road from San Gil to Bucaramanga, very high up and green mountains and valleys filled with early moring mist. I pulled out the Deya Dova soundtrack for the ride. There were a couple of strange road signs including the one with the red not permitted slash over a drawing of a margarita glass (no drink driving perhaps?)
Now to the title of the blog, Colombian women as in all of South America wear their jeans rather tight as though they have been sprayed on by an airbrush gun. Some of the jeans even create the dreaded fashion mistake, the camel toe crotch. Some of the jeans have bedazzled jewels applied or diamantes or embroidered embellishments stuck on. Bad. I couldnīt even bring myself to add the photos of the jeans, they are that horrendous. Ban the toe!
We checked intoĻSun CityĻ in Santa Marta and tried to adapt to the ridiculously hot weather, we are going to wear shorts not jeans.

. Also there is one with people who are carrying briefcases and running across the road. This one means that pedestrians are around but it is strange because i have not seen many people in South America carrying briefcases around, why put the luggage on it? The bus was stalled on the cliff top road because a bus had overturned spilling itīs contents of sacks all over the road. The driver of our collectivo was again, Colombian chaotic, passing cars without a visual on the on-coming traffic and taking risks on the already sketchy as hell road. Never mind the adrenalin sports here, catching a bus is enough of a ride for us. Just after Buca we saw a scooter lying on the road next to a puddle of blood, a taxi had knocked a rider clean off the bike, status unknown. Now to the title of the blog, Colombian women as in all of South America wear their jeans rather tight as though they have been sprayed on by an airbrush gun.
