April 14, 2008 Kate Lee turned the dirty thirty and chose to celebrate the event at The Fallen Angel Restaurant in Cusco. The restaurant is owned by a gay boy couple who have a flair for decorating and a reputation for hosting parties. They also have a restaurant called Macondo near San Blas. The restaurant has tables made from bathtubs filled with goldfish, flying pigs, ambient lantern lights, cloud paintings, artworks, sculptures and fluffy cushions on daybeds. My table had been set with balloons and party fun hats in a kitsch-y design.
The best thing about the night was that all the boys from the Ayahuasca retreat showed up for dinner as they were all in Cusco on their holidays. What a surprise. We had Monseratt, Neil, Desmond, Donald, Erich and course my beloved Frederik who is imply adore. Some of the lads had bought me little birthday gifts. We all ate tasty steaks and vegetarian salads and long island iced teas were the drink of the day
The restaurant is quite a piece of work.
The history of Fallen Angel restaurant ::A B O U T T H E C O N C E P T::. I found a similarity between the passion for life and life story of an Angel.
This story begins with a conversation between this "Angel" and God. The Angel says: "Lord, I am just a mere angel, a common everyday angel, allow me Lord to be one of your very own angels, one of those Warrior Angels, like the ones in the Cathedral... like Raphael or Miguel." The Lord responded to him, ''If you want to be one of them, there is a challenge that you must overcome, that challenge consists in returning to earth and attempt to cure the karmas of the world, healing the pain and the anguish, bearing and delivering happiness to those around you, and when you return ... only then and in That way will you ever become an Arch Angel, an Angel of Light."
The Angel accepts the challenge and returns to earth and after nine months he is born from a human mother
Supported by Faith and by the persons who form part of our team, with our passion for life, the need to give expression and form to the project that would become the Fallen Angel, grew and took shape.
There are two names: Fallen Angel (English), or El Angel (Spanish). The difference of the names in these two languages happens as a result, or as part, of a dilemma. The intention does not seek to cause conflict with Religious Codes, but neither does it attempt to disguise under that respect, the conviction that The Angel (El Angel) was born or begotten under the influence of Religious beliefs.
Synthesizing the Concept, one should grant it a framework, an argument or theme... "Fire and Ice" ...."Hielo Y Fuego". Fire- Fuego.... Hell, Humanity, the Passion, the Negative; Ice- Hielo ... Heaven, the Enlightened, Divine, Sublime, Positive. It represents the struggle between tile Human and the Divine inside us all. In the outline of the undertaking of this project you will find this concept reflected in each one of the spaces or setting and their atmosphere.
In essence, the Angel, accepting his mission, seeks to show to people how to enjoy the banal pleasures of life, intensely making them live reality as it is, for example its contrasts, a delicious plate of meat, a fine drink, music, angels, water, stones ..

.::A B O U T T H E D E C O R A T I O N::.
The venue is located within the historical center of the city, which meant that very special attention and care had to be taken in respect to its significance and all that it represented: an old colonial mansion, dating back to the XIX century, erected upon yet older Inca foundations, and then partially refurbished during the Republican period in the XIX century... three different periods in time plus a fourth one, the contemporary and present, which we represented, with our own simplicity as well as insolence. With the daring and challenge to which we Cusqueños are entitled and together and a personal reckoning with our own mestizo roots.
The restoration of the venue, which constituted the initial stage of the project, represented a worthy challenge all by itself which we assumed hand in hand with competent people. We did not dispose of much time in which to carry this out, and managed to set a record period of just 3 months, at the level of restoration of venues within the historical center of Cusco, always under the supervision of the "National Institute of Culture
The concept of the project is seen reflected in each of the spaces, beginning with the very name in the entrance way, "FALLEN ANGEL" ("EL ANGEL"), Ice-hielo, which represented in the Bar and at the same time signifies the coolness of heaven, or the positive side of the Angel; And Fire-Fuego, which is the flame, the kitchen and cookery, or the heat of the burning of the passion, the negative side of the human being, the temptation... And then the slogan, which is "Full of Pleasure", guaranteeing and assuring you that once you've stepped through that doorway, you will partake and enjoy of all those banal pleasures that we were discussing earlier and the very same that you begin experiencing upon entering... The Fire and Ice are likewise represented in the case of restrooms, since the Angel does not have specifically indicated ladies' or gentlemen's toilets. Rather, they are Good and Evil, and the choice is yours...
At the entrance lies the first of the stages in the Angel's journey, always being observed by Cherubs, aware of the examples set by the Angel; which was created and rendered by the hand of a very dear friend Juan Manuel, a graduate of the Fine Arts School of Cusco: An initial space clear and clean and clean, which is a heaven..
Once outside in the main courtyard, you will find a juxtaposed arrangement, involving a Colonial Period patio courtyard built atop foundations dating- back to Inca times, and with a Republican Period architectural touch-up. Amidst, or lather above all of this, is set a aerial light; and shadows installation of an absolutely modern industrial nature and character. Those discotheque mirror spheres, suspended open space beneath a clear highland mountain sky will leave you bearing sparkling flashbacks that will penetrate to your furthest darkest and most recondite inner spaces.
All of these special and magical characteristics account for the very unique and different personality which The Angel is gifted with, depending of the time of day or night, as well as the state of mind, in which you choose to visit it. All of this language, filled with passion, love, pain, etc. is likewise in the culinary aspects of the house... The specialty consists of meats (another direct message)... a wide range of flavors in a steak like you have most certainly never ever tasted before; such as one of our preferred ones: a Steak in
Last night Nadine took me out to a beautiful traditional Peruvian restaurant where she had booked a table on the balcony overlooking the Plaza de Armas. The waiters all knew it was my birthday so had invited an entire Andean folklorica panpipe band who played a private show for us for half an hour. We had to tip them and buy a CD so the tunes are ours forever
Nadine had bought me a beautiful red suede coat with toggle buttons and a large hood that she had stashed in her backpack since the city of Buenos Aires in Argentina. The perfect birthday gift. We had fun doing a photoshoot around the city where the red coat looked amazing amongst the inka walls, Japanese tourists and cobblestones.

Inside Fallen Angel
. nadine and i continued our night at one of the trashy gringo bars on the square. We ended up at Roots nightclub that is a reaggae bar hidden down an alleyway in Cusco where we danced all night with some French girls and forgot about the cyst problem for awhile. We went home to the casa and ate the lemon meringue pie with Miguel the pirate and Eloy the night worker.The restaurant is quite a piece of work.

. As the restoration work progressed we would advance a long with the workers and artisans, planning, and designing every space as it was being completed.... Narrating the story of "The Angel".... the concept that we utilized to develop the "Thematic Design" (which is a concept that we had already developed in previous projects).The concept of the project is seen reflected in each of the spaces, beginning with the very name in the entrance way, "FALLEN ANGEL" ("EL ANGEL"), Ice-hielo, which represented in the Bar and at the same time signifies the coolness of heaven, or the positive side of the Angel; And Fire-Fuego, which is the flame, the kitchen and cookery, or the heat of the burning of the passion, the negative side of the human being, the temptation... . This is followed by a second space, a limbo where the Angel discovers a very deep feeling, which is love. This second space is dominated by a large heart-shaped sofa. And then a third space, more aggressive in character, where the Angel discovers passion and wherein lies a bed full of latex hearts complemented by a series of details intended to further imbibe one in that atmosphere of passion... Then, almost before exiting unto the main courtyard, you come upon the earthly and worldly pathway leading you to the VIP Lounge, representing that moment when the Angel discovers disillusion and disappointment (which we all come to realize at some given moment of our lives) which is the chamber of Cupid... wherein love lies shown as sarcasm,.. Such as a corner angle fílled with floating hearts and flying pigs (as if pigs flew!).Once outside in the main courtyard, you will find a juxtaposed arrangement, involving a Colonial Period patio courtyard built atop foundations dating- back to Inca times, and with a Republican Period architectural touch-up. . Sauce of Port Wine and Balsamic Vinegar; scattered atop with Rose Petals - which add the passional touch to the matter.... Or also one winch consists of a Steak in Rocoto Chili Pepper Sauce, as hot and burning as Love itself; and yet another one, where the Rocoto pepper has been made into a marmalade -a hot and burning spice converted to sweetness ... what amazing things that love is capable of achieving, don't you think ??? The Menu was designed by Manchamanteles (a play on words in Spanish which would loosely translate into English as "Tablecloth- tamers"), two persons who came into our life the Angel with flavors... two women philosophers who apply their wisdom and knowledge into cookery and cuisine.. Something that speaks for itself. To these steaks they added a list of Exotic Soups with both a Novo Andino as well as an International touch, accompanied by a series of Super Exotic Salads and a small variety of Desserts. . Of course i ate the stuffed avocado dish amongst many other dishes and drank lots of red Chilean wine. The waiter was overly friendly and then ripped us off on our bill by charging us double. A really pleasent evening. Happy Birthday to me.Nadine had bought me a beautiful red suede coat with toggle buttons and a large hood that she had stashed in her backpack since the city of Buenos Aires in Argentina.
