The bus from Coban to Antigua was six hours not the four we had thought and it drove fast in the rain and went through Guatemala City which we were told it wouldn't do. Big city is was however we only saw the fringes and that was enough for us. 4 million people live there. The grain sack and garbage bags kept the rain off our bags on top of the bus. We chatted to a girl from Seattle who had been volunteering and diving in Central America.
We arived in Antigua and decided to ditch our Spanish lessons there because it is too touristy and a bit yuppie even. We will pick them up somewhere else. I checked the internet for a place to stay in a cafe that doubled as a barber shop. We checked into Hostel International Mochilero Guesthouse which is nice and quiet with a plain street facade that opens up into a beautiful building and gardens. We are surrounded by three volcanoes, Agua, Fuego and Acatenango. We will climb Pacaya which is active and has lava and smoke, you can cook marshmallows on it's side. We have to take a guide and security guard. We saw two people have an umbrella fight outside the Arco De Santa Catalina and many police and guards turned up....... hilarious. Those coloured, decorated school busses are everywhere and silver tuk tuks.
We had a latte made with the good Guatemalan coffee, checked out an awesome book store and kept runing into the Spanish lads. We ended up at a Rickis Bar and MonoLoco drinking beers and Zacapa Centario rum (the best in Guat). We had to hammer on the door of the hotel to be let in as we rolled out of a cab.
My ipod is back, an American computer nerd fixed it for me.
