First day in Washington, DC. Took the subway to Union Station to go to the National Mall. The National Mall extends for more than 2 miles between Constitution and Independence Avenues. With US Capitol on the East and Lincoln Memorial on the West. It was a Sunday so the Mall was especially quiet. The Capitol is crowned with "Freedom", a tall bronze figure of a woman in robes. The statue faces east even though the east entrance is actually the back entrance. The reason why it faces east is because the sun never sets on justice.

Near the US Capitol is 1 of the 2 reflecting pools. For those of you who watched the Amazing Race Family Edition, it was where some of the contestants failed to find the clues because they went to the wrong reflecting pool.

We concluded our day by taking the subway to Washington's Chinatown. We found the Verizon stadium and quite a few restaurants and a Starbucks on the outskirts of Chinatown. All their names are translated into Chinese. Because I know how to read Chinese, I noticed that one store actually had the character wrong. Chinatown is not big, actually, only 1 block. So our visit was veeerry brief.
