Today we get to experience air travel in Peru as we will be taking two flights today  as well as a bus to get to Puno.  We are wearing all of our essential hiking gear as we are not feeling too trusting of air travel here.   Last night was very cold in the hotel, many of our group slept in extra clothes and one girl wore her hat to bed, I am hoping not to have to do that until I am on the trail.  However I did have 2 icy cold showers as the hot water has stopped working in our hotel.  Al has said if this is a two star hotel then one of the stars is the asterisk from the keyboard (which also does not have letters of it).  I am sorry that I have not posted pictures , I have taken lots but cannot get this computer to accept my card reader, so I will post my pictures as soon as I am able.  Well we are loading, and of course I have the most luggage of anyone in the group.

We get onto our bus to discover that our guide Josh will not be joining us.  He has been robbed last night (yup, all those GAP $$  we had given him the night before, as well as his passport).  So Daniel guides us to the airport and gets us to our gate, another GAP  representative will be meeting us in Juliaca and then we will be boarding a small bus for the ride into Puno.  We stay in Puno tonight and depart in the morning to visit Lake Titicaca.

We are all relieved to get onto our plane ok.  Our flight will touch down once and then onto Juliaca.  Landing is Juliaca is an experience.  It was a good thing I was so involved in my book.  We landed with such a thump that my book went flying out my my hands and there was a collective gasp from our group.  We were all so happy to get getting off the plane.  It was a very small airport but we were at very high altitude.  We had no sooner gotten into the terminal when some of the group started to feel the effects of the altitude. As soon as we arrived in our hotel in Puno our new quide started to feed us coca tea to settle our stomachs.
Once we settled into our rooms we headed out for lunch at a locl rstaurant.  Most had pizza which looked to be good.  Al and I took the guides advise to eat lightly and just had soup.  It was Nicolle's birthday so we did get birthday cake for dessert.

Cold Shower Ouch!
Hi Jillian! Love all your emails, don't know how you find the time, but I'm glad that you do. Hard to believe it gets that cold there at night and then a cold shower, that is brave! Can't wait for pixs. Be safe and can't wait for the next email. Love Monika
