I guess I was a little optimistic about boarding , our flight ending up being delayed over 2 hours so we arrived at the Lima airport at 12:15 a.m.  Customs was actually very efficient and we moved through quickly.  We were sure happy to see our Gap representative holding up a sign with our names.  The Lima airport is huge, very modern, and yes it was open and even at that hour it was packed with people.  While we were waiting we were treated to a troupe of young Peruvian dancers in colorful costume.

It was a long ride to our Hotel in Milaflores, and at that hour the surroundings looked a little doubtful.  Our hotel is very Spartan but clean, the staff speak excellent English, and they have free Internet - what more can you ask for.  We have had breakfast in the Hotel and we are going to catch a few more zzz´s before our tour of Lima this afternoon.  So far we have seen no effect of the earthquake.  The staff here tell us that they felt the tremor and that they all ran out onto the street and many fell to their knees to pray as they thought they would die.  The epicenter was about 3 hours from Lima and 80% of the town is destroyed and major relief efforts are underway.  Perhaps we will learn more this afternoon.
