I woke to the sounds of the sea this morning - what a wonderful sound. A large Cruise Ship had docked in the night, lots of ferries coming in and out of the port and lots more street noise on a Monday morning compared to Sunday! We are getting an early start this morning, it is still a little overcast but we are hoping it will clear up as we are getting onto a ferry to cross the Waitemata Harbor to go to Devonport. $15.00 return for the two of us, and only a short ferry ride and we are in a wonderful seaside community. We set off on a walk to discover as much as we can in a short while. We both fall instantly in love with this area. It is lovely and small, old Victorian era homes, gorgeous gardens and of course a view of the harbour everywhere. From this side of the harbour we get a great view of the SkyTower in Auckland. We explore the pathways for about an hour before we head back to the main part of the city to find food. We discover a wonderful place called the Stone Oven, a bakery and restaurant and everything is served on fresh bread. Al has smoked salmon scrambled eggs, I have an amazing chicken burger on a homemade bun, with Brie, cranberries, bacon, lettuce - so good and much better then the prices we have encountered so far. The sun has come out and it is now getting quite warm. The patio is full so we are eating inside but the large doors are wide open and birds are inside joining us for lunch. All too soon we are heading back across the harbor as we have lots more to pack into the day..
