I wanted to fly from Tumbes to Arequipa, but unfortunately there is only one flight out of Tumbes each day at 6:20pm and it gets to Lima at 8:30 which is too late to catch a flight to Arequipa. So I had to sleep in Lima and take a morning flight to Arequipa at 7am. In total I was in Lima for about 11 hours, but I arrived in the dark and left just at sunrise so I didnīt see too much. Plus, the airport is about a 25 minute taxi ride from the center of the city, so I just stayed at a cheap hotel near the airport.
When I paid for my hotel I was told that the money changers at the Ecuador-Peru border had given me three 50 Sol bills that were counterfeit (thatīs the equivalent of 46 US Dollars). This was quite annoying. I have since tried to use the counterfeit bills in a couple of stores but people here are quite good at spotting fakes (apparently there are a lot of fakes). The fake bills that I got are really similar to the real bills. They even have the shiny reflective stuff that they put inside them. The only difference is that the paper feels a bit tougher on my fake bills then on the real bills which are made from a paper that is softer....
