When I decided to come to South America in March and April, I was aware that this was the rainy season in the Andes Mountains. However, I had been told that the rainy season meant that it would be sunny in the morning and then we`d get a bit of a shower in the afternoon and then the sun would come out again.
Well, it has now rained for five days in a row. It hasn`t rained all day for these five days. But it has been cloudy for five full days. Friday it started raining in the morning as I was waiting for the bus to go to La Mitad del Mundo. Saturday, it began raining at 2pm as I was on the bus to the Black Sheep Inn and it continued to rain for the rest of the day and through the night. Sunday it began raining around noon while I was hiking back from Laguna Quilatoa. Monday it started raining just after I arrived in Baņos. Tuesday morning was the nicest day of the trip so far - it was warm and partly cloudy during my bike ride. But then by evening the rain started and lasted most of the night.
The route that I traveled during the past week is called the Avenue of the Volcanoes because there are 6000ft. volcanoes towering over the road. However, I haven`t gotten to see any of these volcanoes because we haven`t yet had a clear day.
Today is Wednesday and it hasn`t yet started raining...
