After heading back to St Lucia to watch the South Africans get their arses handed to them by the Aussies in the semi-final, it was off to Barbados. This was to be the venue for the final, and all cricket lovers converged on the island. I was staying with a local family somewhere in the shithole suburbs, but they treated me really good. I checked out the Oistins Friday night fish fry, and massive outdoor cookup/piss-up/danceoff. I bumped into heaps of people I'd met throughout my holiday, and good times were had by all.
The next day we all headed to Kensington Oval to watch the final. It hammered down rain for several hours at the start, which served to get everyone into the rum a lot earlier than they planned. Once play eventually began, and Gilly started raining 4's and 6's into the crowd, the mood was awesome. Drunken Aussies were by far the largest crowd contingent, and Gilly played the innings of a lifetime
The next day I rose, rather hungover, and headed to the north of Barbados to check out 'Reggae On The Hill', a reggae festival with some big names like Richie Spice and Buju Banton. It was another drunken, muddy day of dancing and hijinks, and nicely capped off my Caribbean experience. The following day I was on a plane to New York...

Barbados - Puppy dog 'baby' at Peggy's house
. By the time the sun went down, and the game ended in darkness, everyone was too pissed to care and the night turned into an absolute blinder. We all went out in the nightclub area of St Lawrence's Gap, and one club was filled with Aussies and playing Midnight Oil, AC/DC and Men at Work. So much for being over the other side of the world...The next day I rose, rather hungover, and headed to the north of Barbados to check out 'Reggae On The Hill', a reggae festival with some big names like Richie Spice and Buju Banton.
