After a few weeks of quite, solo travelling through laidback mountainous regiuons of small islands, I decided it was time to get down to Grenada and check out some cricket. I skipped my two nights in Carriacou, and caught the ferry down to Grenada. On the ferry, the cricket mood was apparent. Sri Lankans and Indians, one fat South African, and myself were standing on the bow drinking rum and talking cricket. Once I got into St George, I fully comprehended just how different the Caribbean experience was about to become. Aussies everywhere, Kiwis everywhere. I met up with some young doctors from Sydney and we all went out to hit the town. For most of the night, I was hard pressed to figure out I wasn't in Australia. Pissed Aussies all over the place, swearing their holes out and singing John Farnham songs.

The atmosphere is good, and there's always a game of cricket going on the beach or behind Grand Anse Grenada - Beach cricket

. The pace of drinking has picked up considerably, as every day I walk down to the beach, meet a new crew of Aussies or Kiwis, which leads to beers, which leads to rum, which leads to messiness. We've been to most of the places in Grenada, and have managed to have drinks with members of all the teams on the islands. A few choice drunken words to Graeme Smith at Coconuts Bar showed that he can't take a joke too well, Roy Symonds seems to be loving the fishing in the Caribbean, and the Kiwi team are VERY tolerant of drunken Aussie abuse.

Finally saw my first Aussie match yesterday, against Sri Lanka, and it was top times. There are enough Aussies to fill about 1/3 of the stadium, and they're all die-hard, piss-drinking, singing cricket fans, so they're quite vocal. While the Caribbean cricket vibe may not be as good as it could've been, it's like a playground for the Aussies. Beach balls can roll on the field, only to be retrieved by bouncer...and given back to the crowd! The DJ in the Party Stand starting doing mix-ups of 'Land Down Under', and the rums flowed freely (again). The sheer quantity of pissed Aussies and Kiwis at Friday's Aus/NZ match is going to make it the match of the World Cup, unless the 2 teams meet again in the finals.

So, in short, I'm going to need a new liver when I get back...
