We took off for the famed Palanga (the hotbed of hot bodies and hedonists- ok, at least that's what they say in the brochure), which is well-known for what happens during the short summer months of Lithuania.  Incredibly, the population usually balloons from 20,000 to 100,000 people.  No, we did not hang on the beach and party all night long, as nobody else was either with the temps hovering around 60 degrees and overcast (at least there was no rain).
Instead we took off for the Botanical Gardens and the Amber Museum which was the palace of Count Tyszkiewicz.
The grounds surrounding the Amber Museum were quite beautiful with paved trails through forest. As you walked through the forest, small trails led to the Baltic Sea.
Since we had a 3 hour ride over to Palanga, we didn't have as much of an excursion today.
Tomorrow, We take a ferry to the Kuronian Peninsula to explore the sand dunes, and a few other sites.
More tomorrow........Ilene
