I left Anchorage with the intention of driving to Cantwell and starting the Denali Highway the following day, however what I found out was that the Denali Highway has some specifics that you *need* to know before setting out. It's a dirt highway that runs 163 miles between Cantwell and Paxton and it's all managed by the Beaureau of Land Management. The nearest place to get the latest info was at the parks info dept in Denali Park which was only 30 miles up the road from Cantwell, so I went up there.
However, when I got there the parks info dept was closed, however the camper registration was still open, so I registered to camp there inside the park at the furthest point into the park that still allows pets called the "Savage River Campground". Denali park is famous for it's abundant wildlife, so of course I saw exactly none. However I included some pictures of the Savage river which was neither
So I camped there overnight and then headed down to get the info about the road. For the travels on the Denali Highway... see tomorrow.
The other big event was that the latch on my truck top broke off. Awesome. Now I can either leave it partway open, or never get into it again. Sadly the nearest snugtop dealer is in anchorage and the folks I talked to in Fairbanks can't seem to fix it. I may be headed back down to anchorage for a repeat visit, because if I can't use the stuff in the back- I can't...um...survive.

. They should have called it the "Rather Pleasent Creek" campground. So I camped there overnight and then headed down to get the info about the road. For the travels on the Denali Highway... see tomorrow.
