Our first day in Sitka was a little kickback. I was out of T-shirts and underwear so it was time to avail ourselves of the laundry facilities here in the hotel (Super 8 over Sitka!). So we did a little laundry in the morning and then headed out to do some hiking.
First we stopped for lunch at someplace called "The Backdoor". I just searched the web for something about it and there was a bunch of chumpy reviews but nothing worth the actual place. It was a lovely little coffee shop café. Reasonable coffee, but good sandwiches and a distinctly "blue state" atmosphere in a state that has seemed very red so far. Lots of "out of Iraq now" posters and "save America/ defeat bush" kinds of things. Mom had never been anyplace like it.
After that we headed out for a hike, first going to "totem pole park" (see pictures) which was a nice hike and there was tons of history with the poles, but the treat of the day was Mosquito Cove
The thing that pictures don't indicate is the fact that we were like 2 miles into the bush and this path is still perfectly graveled and immaculately lined with logs, stairs are cut into hillsides with logs scored to prevent slippage. It was the *best* hiking trail I've ever been on. Seriously. Best. Amazing. 2 miles of perfection.
Tomrrow we go to the raptor rehabilitation center for injured birds. Interesting or boring. We shall see.
Over and out.

Mosquito Cove
. Honestly, I've done some hiking, and I've never been on trails as immaculate as the hike we did though Starrigavan Park here on Sitka. We tried to capture this on film. Honestly, amazing. Look.
