This was our 2nd game of the season and we had a lot of crap go on the week of this game.  In the Austrian Football League you are allowed to have 4 american players with a max of 3 on the field at one time.  Well, in our last game (Budapest) we lost one of our Americans to a knee injury.  Then we find out that 2 of our German players are considered American players for one reason or another.  Now we do not have that many people on our team to begin with so when we lose one player its like losing 3 or 4 for a team with a full roster.  We also had one guy who had a military commitment who couldn't get out of it.  So right off the bat we are down 4 players, 3 of which are starters.  We were not discouraged though, as we thought we had a good game plan going into the game.

We leave for St. Polten, which is about an hour outside of Vienna.  We stayed there for the night, had a nice pasta dinner and then hit the sack.  Actually the coaches stayed up for awhile and had some cocktails.  We got up for breakfast and then headed out to the stadium at around 10:30.  On our way to the stadium it starts to rain and we can only hope for a  change of venue so we can play on Field Turf.  No luck there so our game was to be played on grass.  All we could hope for is that the rain lets up soon.  Wrong!  It actually rained harder.

Game starts and the field is in shitty condition.  We traveled with 24 guys and they came out with there 55.  Lucky us.  We do a pretty good job of stopping them in the first quarter but we lose our starting Center/Inside Linebacker on the first defensive play of the game.  Now we have 23 guys.  Our guys gave their best effort but it just wasn't enough that day.  Playing in the mud and freezing rain was just too much for our guys.  We had one guy who had to come out of the game because he was freezing.  He couldn't stop shivering.  Another guy was cramping up and he actually ended up in the hospital a few days later with pneumonia.  He is out now and feeling a lot better, but it was a little scary for a few days there.  We ended up losing the game 27-0.  The game really wasn't as bad as the score would indicate but a loss is still a loss.  To top it off they ran out of beer after the game and only had a little food left.  Thank goodness they sell beers on our bus for 1.20 euros.  It was a long trip home and we rolled in at around 4am.  Enough of that game because it makes me sick thinking about it.

I hope everyone is doing well.
