Where I stayed
After stocking up on breakfast at the hotel we set off for a day of sightseeing - Ian-style....
After navigating our way onto the MTR we travelled to Tung Chung. We scaled Lantau Island via the glass bottomed cable car (the Ngong Ping 360). The scenery was absolutely amazing. Arriving at Ngong Ping village we found our third Starbucks (we'll probably stop counting now). It was a short walk through the village following the signs to the giant Buddha. It really is massive - makes you wonder how they got it up there. 268 steps later we are at the top - rewarded by a close up view of the Buddha and 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains with villages dotted around them
Back down the mountain via cable car - we headed all the way across the MTR network to Central Station on Hong Kong island. After a short walk uphill we arrived at the Victoria Peak Tram. After another long queue (Hong Kong queues are as long as those in Disney but less orderly or entertaining) we take the short ride up to the top of the peak. Many escalators later we get to the Sky Terrace at the top of the Peak Tower. It was well worth the journey for the great views. We stayed until after sunse to get the benefit of the changing daytime, dusk and evening views.
Another long queue to get back down to sea level, and another shorter journey on the MTR, and we finally got to collapse on the bed back at the hotel. Great air conditioning!
Then we were very naughty and had room service, but we made up for it with a brisk walk along the neon-flooded Nathan Road.
