Today I was off to Prague. I had an early
flight so I decided that I wanted to be up by 7am, to leave the hotel
by 8am. However I had sent a message to my dad telling him that if he
wished to call me, it would be best at 7.30am, but he called me at
6.30am, thinking that I was still in Europe time. After taking his
call I got up, dressed, got ready to go, then went outside the hotel
to find some breakfast. I found a cafe type place, where I got a hot
breakfast, it took a while in coming but was worth it. After
breakfast I went back to my room, my room-mate was just leaving for
his flight, so I quickly got ready to go, got my bags and checked out
of the hotel. It was 7.45am.

It was a short walk to Russell square station,
then I just caught the lift down to the platform level, waited 2
minutes and a train to Heathrow terminal 4 came. I got on and
listened to my Ipod until the train arrived at the terminal. It was
only a short walk from the station to the check in counters. I
checked in with no problems, then went through security as per
normal. However going through security they now want you to take out
your computer from the case and it goes through separately.

After dealing with security I wandered around
the departures area, went to duty free and purchased some Oakley
sunglasses, then got some food and did some reading until the gate
was called. It was only a short walk to the gate and it was not long
until the gate opened and we were allowed on the plane. Once on the
plane I downloaded my pictures and did a bit of organising of them, I
did a bit of reading as well. The plane arrived at Prague airport a
bit late and then by the time I got my bags – which were late
arriving, I was running later than I expected. Outside the airport I
purchased the Prague visitors card and a 24 hour transport pass. I
was able to pay for the visitors pass in euros, but had to go to the
ATM to get some crowns – the local currency so I could pay for the
transport ticket. Ticket acquired, I went to the bus stop and caught
the bus to the point where the metro started. I then caught the metro
the station near where my hotel was and using Google's careful
directions I walked to the hotel, only getting lost once. My hotel is
located just behind the main square, so it was a short walk from the
main square. I checked into the hotel and paid in Euros, this now
leaves me with 10 Euro. I found my room, unpacked, did some quick
sink washing and then left the hotel.

First up after leaving the hotel I went to the
sex machines museum – this was like the sex museum in Amsterdam,
only with more machines that are used for sex, it was interesting. I
then walked back to the old town square, saw the Astronomical clock,
walked around the square, I found an atm where I got more crowns,
then went to the choco story. This is a chocolate museum, this is
well presented and had some demonstrations on chocolate making. It
was a great museum. I then left the choco story and wandered around,
I soon came to the museum of communism. This museum is located next
to a mac Donald’s and sort of inside a Casino. It had lots of
displays and lots of information about communist days in Prague.
There was also no real gift shop, which was a shame. Just outside
this museum was this large brick display. It was a charity thing
where you purchase a brick, decorated it and it went onto the wall.
The money used to help the homeless. I purchase and decorated my
brick. The idea has been here since at least 2006, as I read a few
blogs where people went to it. I continued walking around and found a
metro station, I caught this to another station, got off an walked to
the Charles bridge. Just before going over the bridge I went to the
torture museum, this had lots of cool torture instruments on display.
I then walked across Charles bridge, returned and then started
looking for a place to eat dinner.

I found a place near the old square, it had
nice cheap food that came quickly and the beer was good – Czech
beer is one of the best. After dinner I went back to the hotel, where
I did a bit more washing, used the internet and the went to bed,
prepared for another day in Prague.
