There are 2 sites, the battleground and associated museum which is a National Park and Yorktown victory which is a State Park. We have a senior pass for the National Park and bought tickets for the State Park. However, I put the State Park tickets somewhere safe and didn't find them until Saturday. Another reason I need adult supervision.
As it worked out, we went to the battleground then decided to go on to Virginia Beach.
The battleground was very interesting, not least of all because I hadn't realized how big a part France played in winning the American War of Independence. Maybe we shouldn't be so hard on them these days!
Virginia Beach was a zoo. The 3-day annual Neptune Festival had just started on the boardwalk.
The big event was the North American Sandsculpting Championship. There were contestants from Canada, England, Ireland, Bulgaria and the Netherlands, as well as the US. Some of the sculptures are by double teams and some are by solos. They had finished sculpting so we could see the finished sculptures. I took a load of photos - amazing.
On the way back to Williamsburg, after about 20 miles, we ran into a thunderstorm. Unfortunately it moved down to Virginia Beach and closed the festival early on Friday. Don't know what happened over the weekend.
