Where I stayed
Standing Bear left the reservation in Indian territory without permission and was arrested in Nebraska. At the suggestion of General Crook he sued Crook and the US government for a writ of habeas corpus which he won. The judge ruled 'an Indian is a person' and the Government had shown no good reason for arresting. him. Although Standing Bear and those with him were freed, Indians were not granted US citizenship until 1924!
The bronze statue of Standing bear is the highlight of the park.
After Ponca City, which I believe, relies almost entirely on a huge Conoco-Philips oil refinery for its existence, I traveled to Tulsa on route 412.
