Where I stayed
Having seen many Cassorwary warning signs we were determined to see one so headed to a couple of 'well-known' viewing spots. One of these was Namu Rainforest Park which was an ancient rainforest that was hit badly by a Cyclone in 2006. Following the storm damage they built a magnificent viewing platform and boardwalk trail throughout a small section of the forest. The viewing platform gave some amazing birds eye views.... but no Cassowaries!
After the visit to Namu we continued the drive but it got wetter and wetter the further north we travelled
The lodge was brilliant, 10 little wooden bungalows on stilts in the forest with a boardwalk linking them up together. Although being in the middle of a forest meant the mosquitos were rampant and we were pretty much eaten alive straight away! The lodge also included evening meals in their amazing restaurant which was great as didnt need to venture out in the evening. They also told us all about their local Cassorwary who they called 'fred'. After the meal Melissa & James showed us some creatures in the forest using big torches including some massive spiders with big webs and geckos and frogs!
We booked a guided walk for the second day so hoping to see some more creepy crawlies!
