We did a three day tour through the Salar de Uyuni and the desert valleys towards San Pedro de Atacama. We couldnīt follow our plan to head north from Tupiza to Uyuni and then Cochabamba due to the strikes on in Potosi and then Uyuni. The only solution was to go back to Chile and try make our way into La Paz from Arica. Apart from this and another few annoying moments we had a great time and got to see some fantastic sceneries, like different coloured lagoons, volcanoes, salt flats, caves, geysers and thermal pools. Also lots of wildlife, including flamingos, Vicuņas and even some desert foxes. We slept in a salt hotel the first night and spent the evening chatting with the other people on the tour. It is amazing how many nice travellers you meet on the way. The second night was even more basic but as we had to get up very early to go to the geysers we didnīt mind too much. As the geysers are at over 4200m and it was very early in the morning it was freezing. The doors on the jeep froze and so did my feet! Sue decided to defrost hers in the thermal pools, which worked out well. Never wanted a hot shower so much but we still have a 12 hour bus journey ahead of us before we can do that.
