We have finally received 'The Storm' of the season!

A few days ago we received our first Condition 1 snow storm! A Condition 1 storm is when the when visibility is less than 100 ft. or the wind speed is greater than 55 knots (>60 mph) or the wind chill is greater than -100F (-38C). We didn't get a chance to see what the specifics of the storm (temp/wind speed) were since it was at midnight, and we were too excited at the time to care, but it definitely was a good one!

The pictures included show the difference between a Condition 3, 2 and 1 so you can see how bad the weather can actually get at times! We also included a short video that was taken while peeking outside of the front door of our dorm. It describes the Condition 1 storm perfectly - not being able to see anything, but hearing the strong howl of the wind!

We are happy to say that the weather cleared up beautifully after the storm and has been rather 'warm and sunny' since then! Our weather today is clear skies and a warm 9F! Yes, we are now in the positive numbers! This brings much happiness as it means the planes can once again fly...more importantly, it means freshies and mail!

The Today Show crew has just recently left the ICE, but not before experiencing our Condition 1 excitement! Thankfully the weather was a bit more calm while they were here filming their live broadcasts, but they still received a real view of Antarctica and just how much of a 'Harsh Continent' it can be!

We were able to be a part of the second live broadcast which was at the Chalet. Everyone made signs and got there early in the hopes of being on national television! The broadcast was at 3:00 am for us so it was a bit of a struggle to stay up that late...and then convince ourselves that we 'wanted' to stand outside in the freezing cold just to be on TV, but who wouldn't?!

Actually, Michelle pooped out at the last minute, leaving Aaron with the responsibility of making us famous! (But she made the signs so it works out even!) So, if any of you actually watched the broadcast you might catch a glimpse of Aaron standing in the crowd with a yellow sign that says 'Barbee.' You can also look for him towards the end of the broadcast standing behind the band near the drummer. We have not actually seen any of the broadcasts so we are not sure if we made it in them at all, but at least it was fun making the effort!

For Jadon & Joel:
We did actually get the chance to meet Ann and we let her know that you wrote about us on her show!
