After driving from Colorado to Florida to visit family & friends and store all of our belongings we are finally getting ready for our adventure to Antarctica! We will be going to McMurdo Station to work for Raytheon Polar Services as Dining Attendants for the next 6 months.
The past month has been a complete blur! We have been constantly kept on our toes with the amount of pre-departure paperwork and appointments; not to mention all of the packing, evaluating, and then re-packing that we have done over the past 2 weeks! With the lack of sleep due to excitement, stress, and chaos I am surprised that we can still function! I am not sure that it has completely sunk in about what we are doing and where we are going, but it will hit us soon enough. The question is will it hit us before that first breeze of Arctic air does?
Our adventure begins with a series of flights over the next few days. We will be flying from Orlando, FL (connecting in Dallas) to Denver, CO for 2 days of orientation and safety training at the RPSC Head-Quarters. We will then fly to Los Angeles, CA to catch our connecting flight to Auckland, NZ which will then connect us to our final destination of Christchurch, NZ. We will be spending 2 days in Christchurch getting outfitted with our Extreme Cold Weather Gear. With the hope of good weather we will then take a 5 hr flight on a military cargo plane to McMurdo.
We are hoping for good weather, quick flights, and all of our luggage to arrive in one piece!
